I was listening to my roommate’s iPod while building a fence around the patio last weekend. She’s a Montana girl and no stranger to country music. The shuffle went from a Devotchka tune to Dwight Yoakam’s “Turn it on, Turn it up, Turn me loose”.

We all know that Bellingham is chock full of do-right people and organizations.

At the Volunteer Center, we’re lucky enough to get to know many of them and how they benefit the community.

Bellingham continues to rate as a “top ten” city over and over again in national magazines. Amidst this breathless buzz of journalists citing everything from incredible mountain biking options to best access for paddling adventures, I’d like to point out a more salient reason we’re a top ten city: people who live here give back to their community and we are all better off for it.
