Tactical Philanthropy - an excellent site about the Second Great Wave of Philanthropy

Tactical Philanthropy is one of my favorite blogs. Written by Sean Stannard-Stockton, it chronicles the “Second Great Wave of Philanthropy.” The first great wave of philanthropy in America was led by Andrew Carnegie who set the example for his rich cronies of giving back. Sean makes the convincing argument that WE are the second great wave. http://www.tacticalphilanthropy.com/2006/10/about_this_blog.html

;span>Certainly, the landscape has shifted in the last year. Philanthropy was much in the news. Warren Buffett's commitment of $37 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was the largest gift ever and a clear, brilliantly-lit marker that in order to solve big problems it’s better to collaborate… The Clinton Global Initiative raised pledges for $7 billion in three days… Al Gore’s call to arms in his An Inconvenient Truth put global warming front row center in people’s minds... Google’s for-profit Foundation sent a signal that ‘philanthropy 2.0’ is no longer business as usual… The proliferation of giving circles like Bay Area’s Full Circle Fund, SV2 and myriad smaller and more targeted groups heralded the entry of young professionals and special interest groups in philanthropy. And now Just Cause, has added the goal of “making-a-difference” to the burgeoning field of social networking sites.
