Green is the new black: EcoTuesday comes to Seattle
I'm sure that many people who will happen across this blog post will have at one time or another attended a Green Drinks event, either here in Seattle, or in another city. Green Drinks has become huge. Not exactly an organization, more of just an idea, the events take all forms and happen all over the world.
My partners fiance started an event a few months ago in San Francisco. She is in the Sustainable MBA program at the Presidio School of Management and she and friend decided that there was room for a different kind of sustainability networking event. Thus was born EcoTuesday.
A monthly event taking palce on the 4th Tuesday, EcoTuesday has a unique format that really makes it effective. Instead of a non stop shmoozfest, EcoTuesday requires RSVP, starts with introductions. Everyone says who they are and what they are passionate about. This is followed by a featured speaker and then a discussion. The process I have described sets a context for the networking that follows. Why is the context important? 1) everyone has something to talk about in common, 2) everyone can remember at least 5 people who introduced themselves and can go talk to them.
After just a few months EcoTuesday has frown from 50 people to 250 people in San Francisco, and now its branching out. Next stop: Seattle, Washington! It looks like the first event will be October 23rd. Details will be forthcoming. If you're interested in helping out with EcoTuesday in Seattle, or elsewhere, reach out via the EcoTuesday website.
