Starting Something
It often seems really hard to just "start something". I come from a long line of starters. My grandfather started a bunch of businesses, so did my grandmother. My dad has been a serial entrpreneur since college. And I feel like since i was a little kid I was always starting something. But it seems, as I have gotten older, it is harder and harder to really start something. We get so busy, and all the people around us are so busy with work and with life, that going beyond to start something beyond our career, or our immediate social sphere can seem like a chore.
Yet that hasn't gotten to me. Almost 2 years ago I started a small organization with some club mates in the Jedi Knights Scooter Club called Scooter-Relief.org. The goal: raise money for our friends who suffered losses due to the flooding in the wake of Hurrican Katrina in New Orleans. We've raised over $10,000 and given all of it away to poeple we know who needed help. Since then we have expanded beyond just relief for Katrina victims to helping people involved in motorscooter accidents or those in our community with medical emergencies.
It hasn't been easy, and we still have a long way to go to really establish the organization. But we're doing it.
