How to prove that an addiction exists?
I had the pleasure of hoting Kay Sheppard this weekend. She is the first person to describe the disease of food addiction in her 1989 book, Food Addiction: The Body Knows. Kay has 30 years of recovery from addictive foods. She talked alot about the research that needs to be done to determine the course of disease and to validate assessment and treatment methods. Fortunately, through my doctoral work, I have an idea for the research agenda. It's extensive including epidemiological, laboratory, MRI, literature review and human trials research. Kay and I have agreed to work on it together through the Refined Food Addiction (ReFA) Research Foundation.
I think our collaboration will provide a great leap forward. It's a very exciting development.

Great news on your collaboration
Joan, this is great news for your foundation.
Kay Sheppard's agreement really validates the quality and importance of your research.
Thanks
Thanks Byron. It's great for the whole project because Kay's clinical experience is so vast. It is clinical experience that informs the research to reveal the disease in data.
