She's a mother.
The reason I started the North American Council for Entrepreneur Moms is simple. We need need unity and we need advocates.
There are so many mothers operating on every business level from franchises to network marketing and unlike groups like NAWBO (North American Woman Business Owners) we just haven't come together and harnessed our power.
Speaking of power: The media plays this game with mothers. We're portrayed as being either alpha; hyper driven and perfectionists, or beta; lazy, messy, "chill" and too busy to have any depth or nurture our passions.
These images are not representative of any moms that I know. Children do not transform women into passion-less beings with tunnel vision only focused on play-dates and disposable diapers. We own serious, producing businesses, control the economy with our spending power, and have valuable opinions.
I've been in the "mom business" world for almost two years now and have a deep desire to help moms take themselves seriously and expect others to do the same.
Corporations are clamoring to learn about our demographic. I'm in talks with one to lend marketing support and recently a friend of mine was flown to Disney headquarters to help them develop family friendly products.
Mothers have power. It's time for those of us who are entrepreneurs to shed the cutesy "mompreneur" title. Our babies may be cute but our ventures don't have to be.
