Because they are ENTITLED
They’ve been entering the work-world.... asking for the office, expense account, not to do that job - but do THAT job instead (your job), increases to the retirement/vacation package, and parking paid for! The Entitlementers.
Yes, those that feel ENTITLED. You see it, squawk at them, and think --- yeeaaah, rrrrighhhht, buddy. ....you’ve gotta be kidding me?! And with some relative composure, you stifle an impulsive squawk, and say, “let’s do the job at hand, and then grow, shall we?”
Then all office bets are made -- will they stick around for three years? Not likely. (And Corner Cubicle wins the pool --- again!) And you find yourself going through this again....
Well, what do you expect?!! We’ve trained them to do this - ask for all that. They’re just following what’s been given to them.
That’s right....student achievers, those doing all that’s been asked of them. Today’s students. The techy-talented, the trumpeted, the competitive, worked hard and long, performing each step (and more) asked (required / standardized for them) and achieving at the level we’ve set them up to do. In other words, we groomed them... since early childhood, all through school...and they did the college work, too.
Is this a false lead? Didn’t the Internship take care of the real-life transition shake up? Naw. Come now, that’s part of the process we’ve established for them. You remember.
So, what’s your squawk saying now?
What are you doing about it?! What do we do about this?
......Mentorship.
What mentorship are you offering? Is it a program, or is it something only “achievers” do?
Parents aren’t to blame either. We're doing what's "best practices" for raising thriving children. Don’t get us going...foot that bill, then talk to us.
Tell me about your mentorship. Share with me what happens? How are you addressing the work and home life balance? How are you offering tips of the trade? What are you conveying to connect self-involved thinkers to become more interested in communities - local, national and international?
Are you working with retirees? Do you work with highschoolers?
Would it help? Aren’t they entitled to know all this?!
