Stop suicide jumps from Aurora Bridge
Well, I just have read an article about this in the SEATTLE magazine, and it frustrated the hell out of me - it will take the city 2 years to negotiate to finally build a rail, but in the meantime around 15 people will end their lives by jumping down. And they don't always jump into water, but also into the parking lots, on top of people's cars, etc. - which disturbs employees from Adobe, Google and other companies whose windows look out to the bridge. I have also discovered that Seattle is the US suicide capital, 20% ahead of the other two major cities. From what the article says, on the other famous bridges like Golden Gates in San Fransicso, building a suicide proof rail virtually stopped the jumps. This is probably the last thing I want to get into (getting my company ready for launch), but being an entrepreneur, I thought "Hey, there's got to be a solution". And 20 minutes later I had an idea - JustCause wnet off like a lightbulb in my mind (after meeting Alyssa and hearing about this), and then a solution - what if only one person could spend an entire day on the bridge, watching it. All it takes sometimes, is talking to the person, or, at least calling 911 so that police can talk to that person. If we could find 365 people in Seattle willing to do this, the suicides could be stopped while the city figures out the legislatures and other stuff. So, here is my word - I will put aside my business, ask my husband to babysit the kids - and I will spend an entire day, from dawn to dusk, on the bridge, if I find at least one person who will do it after me. That person in turn will have to find another, and so we will start a chain reaction - which might save lives, with an added benefit of learning how to meditate and quiet your mind for free! (Imagine standing there and just observing cars - no Internet, TV or other distractions - sounds like total ZEN to me!).
