In the name of accountability there is a lot of talk about "merit pay" for teachers.  "Merit pay" systems vary but the general idea is that a district would replace the traditional system of automatic pay raises based on a teacher's college education and number of years on the job.   A normal salary schedule is a grid with years on the left and units of study on the bot
