My Bio

I teach history and direct the Center for Civic Engagement at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT. The Center connects students and faculty with community organizations, so that students learn better and community organizations are more effective. At Westminster our students and faculty are particularly interested in international work, environmentalism, and schooling.

I'm a trail runner, a Mormon with a strong interest in Buddhism, and a father. I love local knowledge, local history, and neighborhoods. I'm searching for the best ways to connect the local with the global, and for the best ways to build organizations that don't need top-down leadership to succeed.
